Outsite HAWAII Review: Is This Coliving Company For You?

As two girls who work remotely and travel, we are constantly on the hunt for accommodation that meets our needs. Fast WiFi is a must, and designated work spaces are a major plus if we can find them wherever we go. When we came across Outsite, we were intrigued by this coliving company’s promise to combine beautiful, affordable accommodation with a designated workspace in homes across the globe. Naturally, we had to try this co-living company out for ourselves.

Below, we review our 5 week stay at Outsite Honolulu and our time going steady on Oahu. Was the house nice? How expensive was our stay? What was it like sharing a house with strangers? We answer all your questions about Outsite below.

What is Outsite Co?

Outsite is a global network of co-living spaces, with 49 homes in different locations across the globe. These homes serve as your accommodation and your workspace when you travel. Outsite combines the comforts of a hotel/Airbnb with an office space. Plus, you get the chance to connect with a community of fellow travelers.

We like to describe Outsite as having the community benefits of a hostel, with the quality of a hotel. You don’t have to bunk up with strangers in a crowded room, you’ll enjoy your own private bedroom and bathroom during your stay.

What’s Included in Your Outsite Stay?

  • Workspace and supplies
  • Private bedroom (and bathroom in most cases)
  • Solid, reliable wifi
  • Well-equipped kitchens (coffee, tea, spices for cooking)
  • Contactless check-in
  • Fresh towels

Is Outsite Expensive?

Let’s answer one of the biggest questions right away: how expensive is Outsite? These co-living homes have many benefits, which means they won’t be as cheap as a bare bones hostel. Ultimately, the cost of Outsite differs drastically depending on the location.

Hawaii is the most expensive place we have ever traveled, so keep this in mind before we tell you how much our Outsite stay cost on Oahu. We paid $122.50 per night, after receiving the 30% discount associated with our long term stay. Split between 2 people, that’s $61.25 per person, per night for an amazing accommodation.

When you book with Outsite, you save 15% on 7+ night bookings, 30% on 30+ night bookings, and 35% on 60+ night bookings.

We never could have afforded this quality of home on our own for a long term stay, in a great neighborhood with a private dock, hot tub, and secluded outdoor space.

How Outsite Saves You Money

Outsite saved us money in a few key ways during our time in Hawaii.

  • Included workspace: save money on daily coffee and eating out at cafes just to get access to WiFi, and forget about paying for a coworking space. Outsite provides everything you need to work effectively.
  • Fully-stocked kitchen: this was huge for us, because cooking meals in is one of our best tips to save money (and eat healthy) while traveling. Outsite provides spices, cooking oils, coffee, and tea. There was even a community pantry that included quite a bit of non-perishable food left behind by past guests.
  • Included laundry: the Hawaii house had a fully equipped laundry room so that we could wash our wet clothes right away after a day at the beach.
  • Other amenities: Outsite takes care of the little things for guests, like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

How Much is an Outsite Membership?

Outsite memberships cost just $149 for the entire year, or $399 for a lifetime membership.

While membership gives you access to members-only spaces and many other perks, you don’t HAVE to be a member to stay with Outsite. Check out the Outsite website to see which locations are currently being offered to non-members.

We decided to become members for 1 year ($149). Ultimately, we felt that this price – even when added to the total of our Hawaii stay – was still significantly cheaper than any other quality accommodation we were going to find on Oahu.

Benefits of Outsite Membership

  • Access the online Member Hub to connect with other Outsite members
  • Earn credit on your Outsite stays that adds up over time
  • Receive special deals on different Outsite locations each month
  • Enjoy “perks” in the form of product and service discounts
  • Virtual and in-person community building events

What is Co-living?

Let’s talk for a minute about what it’s like to share a house with strangers. If we had to guess, this is probably one of the main factors that holds travelers back from booking with Outsite. But this was actually one of our FAVORITE aspects of our stay in Hawaii – having the chance to connect with a community of other like-minded travelers.

Outsite provides the perfect middle ground between a hostel and hotel, allowing you to meet other travelers and share some spaces (like kitchen and office space), while keeping others (like your bedroom and bathroom) for yourself.

We met some amazing people during our stay at the Outsite Hawaii house, and we became fast friends. On our first full day in Oahu, we went hiking with two of our housemates who we’d just met. Over the course of the next month, we ended up grilling out together, catching sunsets on the beach, hiking, watching movies in the house, and all around enjoying each other’s company.

Digital Nomad Travel Made Easier

You no longer have to take a break from your career to travel – you can have both at the same time. Increased Productivity at Outsite

We found our productivity greatly increased during our time at Outsite, which we attributed to a few key things. First, having a bright, open, clean, and modern workspace allowed us to enjoy the experience of working more. Second, spending our afternoons and time off exploring new places was exciting and energizing. And finally, working alongside other digital nomads motivated us and gave us a sense of community that enhanced the remote work experience.

Our Honest Outsite Review

Honestly, we think Outsite is gaining in popularity…and fast. The company has impressive social media accounts and plenty of content creators staying and sharing about their experiences. We truly believe this co-living company could be the next big thing in travel – and it’s not hard to see why.

Outsite checks all our boxes:

  • Clean, beautiful accommodation
  • Privacy
  • Chance to meet other travelers
  • Full kitchen
  • Discounts for extended stays
  • Sustainable mission

Outsite’s Sustainability Mission

Speaking of sustainability, one reason we’re such big Outsite fans is due to the company’s emphasis on sustainability. For every booking, Outsite plants a tree in partnership with One Tree Planted. The homes also have organic products and an emphasis on minimizing your waste and impact as a traveler. The Outsite Hawaii home even has a solar water heater! This place felt like a true home away from home, and for that reason, we’d rate it a 5 star 10/10.

Downsides to Staying at the Outsite Hawaii House

In all fairness, nobody (and nothing) is perfect. The biggest downside to the Outsite Hawaii house (in our opinion) is that it was far from the North Shore. We loved the laid-back atmosphere and natural beauty of the North Shore of Oahu – and spent many days driving 1 hr each way, to reach this part of the island. If we go back to Oahu, we’d have a hard time deciding between staying at this Outsite again, and trying to find something that’s located right in the North Shore area.

This company goes above and beyond to cater to digital nomads and create spaces where amazing travel experiences can flourish.
